Is Childsmile in Paisley
Since 2011, the Scottish government has conducted a national programme called Childsmile extending to all Health Boards across Scotland. Our practice here in Paisley, Greenlaw Dental Care, is thrilled to provide such an important dental service.
But what is childsmile?
Childsmile is a nationwide initiative created to target Scottish children’s oral and dental health by focussing on prevention, not treatment. Not only is the goal to improve this, but to ensure children are comfortable with visits to the dentist from an early age. From birth, you can rely on us to help protect your child’s teeth. The Childsmile programme focuses on four important factors: the core dietary advice programme, education and care within the dental practice itself, as well as care in nursey and school with supervised brushing. At Greenlaw Dental Care, your dentist and dedicated Childsmile nurse, Kimberley, will provide a bespoke Childsmile care plan that is tailored to suit their specific needs. This includes everything from advice, to six monthly check-ups, a free toothbrush and toothpaste as well as fluoride varnish applications after two years old. This is followed by the application of protective fissure sealants when their adult teeth erupt.
Is Childsmile successful?
Year after year the dental health of young people in Scotland is improving. Studies have shown the levels of dental decay are decreasing with ‘no obvious decay experience’ being reported throughout Scotland. This improvement will only continue with support from practices like ours in Paisley. Not only does Childsmile reduce decay levels, but partaking in early visits to the dentist will help your child feel at ease in the future. As well as building trust, you will also build a routine that will encourage continued appointments as an adult.
