NHS Dental System Changes: Shifting to 12-month check-ups Beyond Our Control

At Greenlaw Dental, your oral health and well-being have always been our top priorities. We've always strived to provide our patients with the best care possible, including regular dental check-ups every six months. However, a significant change is on the horizon that we want to bring to your attention. As many of you may know, from the 1st of November 2023, the NHS dental system is shifting from the traditional 6-month check-up schedule to a 12-month interval, and the list of dental services covered on the NHS will be shortened.

The decision to move to 12-month check-up appointments is a government-led initiative. This means that dental practices across Scotland, including Greenlaw Dental, have no control over this change, and due to a lack of resources and publicly available information, we feel it is our duty to make you aware of this transition as transparently as we can.

Further to this, we want to assure you that we have been diligently preparing for this transition for several months, and we have put measures in place to ensure that we are ahead of the curve. While the 12-month check-up schedule may be different, our dedication to your oral health and well-being remains unchanged.

Our Commitment to You

Despite these changes being beyond our control, Greenlaw Dental remains committed to providing the highest standard of dental care for our patients. Here's how we plan to adapt to the new 12-month check-up system:

Focus on Prevention: We'll continue to emphasise preventive dentistry, ensuring you have the knowledge and tools to maintain optimal oral health between check-up appointments.

Patient Education: Our team will educate you on the signs of potential dental problems, encouraging you to reach out if you notice any issues between your annual check-ups.

Emergency Services: In cases of dental emergencies or urgent issues, we will still be here for you. You can contact us for immediate assistance.

Stay Informed: As dental professionals, we will stay updated on any further changes to the NHS dental system and keep you informed about their impact on your care.

Like many, we – as a team, have several unanswered questions relating to this change, however, we want to remind you that your oral health is a partnership between you and your dental team, and we will continue to offer our support in any way we can. By working together, we can navigate these changes and ensure you continue to enjoy the best dental care possible.

We want to thank our patients for their trust and loyalty as we navigate this transition together. Your health and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we will continue to strive for excellence in dental care.

Finally, we want to remind you that there are other options available to all our patients should you feel this is something you wish to consider. We fully understand that going private for dental treatments can be daunting for many, however, there are payment plans, such as Denplan, available to help spread the cost of your dental treatments.

If you have any questions or concerns about the transition or your upcoming appointments, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to address any issues and provide you with the information you need to make this transition as smooth as possible.
